Title: Basketry.
Description: NY, Dover, (1952). VG PB. The making of useful and often beautiful containers from natural materials is one of the oldest crafts known to man. There is no country in the world where there is not some kind of plant which can be used for twisting into baskets. In Europe there is willow canes, rushes; in hotter countries of the equatorial belt, cane, bamboo and palm leaves could all be pressed into service. Many baskets made in earliest times were intended for everyday use and naturally wore out. Enough fragments have survived however for us to be able to realize how widespread the craft was and what man's earliest efforts looked like. Many sample pictures of what the baskets looked like and that weaves used for them are presented here.
