Description: NY, American Tract Society, nd (ca 1850). Fair.formation in 1825, to his death in 1851. 40 articles written by Dr. Alexander in the latter years of his life, for. the American Messenger; 7 standard Tracts on high evangelical themese, for the Tract Society's general series; six small books written in simple style, and issued in large type to gain the attention of common readers; (one begins: "My little book I make for the poor rather then the rich.") selections from his cheering correspondence with the Society, and brief sketches of his life and character. Alexander at age 20 went out as a missionary through the mountainous regions of Central and Western Virginia, his native state, and preached to the ignorant and perishing, with great power and success, the glorious gospel of the blessed God. He was the author of 7 tracts of the Society's principal series. In 1812 he was called to lay the foundations of the Theological Seminary in Princeton. He died at 80 on October 22, 1851. Quite a worn volume with edges missing on the spine edges and some discolorations. Some smudges and spots on pages, owner names front flyleaf. Laid in newspaper clipping of Jenny Lind's monument, the great singer's grave marked by a simple granite cross with a white marble medallion in which is cut a winged lyre and a wreath of roses in Aprings, Malvern, a little English village.
