Title: The Complete Works of Gaspar Sanz: volumes 1 & 2: complete musical contents of his masterwork Instruccion de Musica.
Description: NY, Amsco Publications, (2006). 2 VG PBs in G slipcase including two demonstration CDs. Born in 1640 Sanz is generally considered to be the greatest Spanish guitarist and composer of the 17th century. He traveled extensively throughout Spain and Italy and influenced, and was influenced by, all of the major proponents of the guitar of his day. Contains over 100 typical guitar pieces many of which remain familiar favorites today. His music ranges from simple strummed pieces in the rasgueado style to the intricate, contrapuntal fantasies, pavanas, and gallardas using the plucked punteado style. All pieces are presented in their original tablature versions, or cifras, with accurate parallel transcriptions in standard music notation. In addition, there are excerpts from Sanz's original text translated into modern English and over 45 musical gems arranged for today's classical guitarist. The two CDs give the student a chance to hear a selection of these pieces played both on baroque and modern guitars. Wear to slipcase corners.
