Title: Cooking with the Maine Sporting Camp Association.
Description: Olathe, KS, Cookbook Pubs Inc., (1993). VG spiral bound PB. Some unusual recipes as well as descriptions of Maine camps. Before the age of steam, the Maine wilderness was vacant of. people except lumbermen and trappers. As the first steamers reached Maine ports from Boston, so did a few hardy sportsmen and naturalists. They explored along water routes with Indian guides, meticulously recording their ventures. Soon the poetry and prose of notes authors and historians such as Thoreau, Lucius Hubbard, and James Russell Lowell caught the interest of the city dweller. Lavish resorts and sporting clubs were more common than the sporting camp until the late 1800s. The Mt. Kineo Hotel first built in 1884 was large enough by 1890 to accommodate 700 guests and 400 employes (from Cobb's introduction).
