Description: London, Cassell, (1968). 1st ptg. VG in VG DJ. Four page letter from the author dated 8/7/1969 plus author's obituary from the NY Times dated 2/9/1973. British novelist. Cost (pen name for Margaret Mackie Morrison) studied drawing, painting & sculpture at the Glasgow School of Art in her native city, and in her early days made her living as an artist. She was drawn to the theater where her mother and actress Ellen Terry were close friends. When ill health forced her to retire from the stage, she traveled widely and began to write. Her first volume, four fairy tales, was published as "Cosy Chair Stories" by Peggy Morrison. International acclaim came with the publication in 1932 of her first novel "A Man Named Luke." During the bombardment of London in WWII she wrote the biographical Rachel about the great French actress of the 19th century. Jubilee is about a visiting English ballerina dead in a Chilean earthquake. Owner name ft endpaper.
