A remarkable grandmother who hid her from her master for 7 years, a brother who escape & spoke out for abolition, her two children whom she rescued & sent north. She recalls the degradation of slavery & the special sexual oppression she found as a slave women, the master who was determined to make her his concubine, his jealous wife, the future congressman who father her children but broke his promise to set them free. She portrays a supportive black community, both slave & free & sympathetic whitess, a slavemistress who sheltered her, the nothern woman who employed her, helped her avoid capture & eventually bought her freedom.
