Description: Paris: A Morel, 1867. First edition, complete in four hardback volumes. Folio (40cm x 30cm), 56pp; 114pp; 90pp; 114pp. 295 plates (84 in volume 1, 64 in volume 2, 73 in volume 3, 74 in volume 4). Uniformly bound in quarter red morocco, marbled boards, gilt titling to the spines, top edges gilt. This set was formerly in a reference library, with a number of stamps and labels, including a discreet stamp to the margins of each plate. There is some rubbing and chafing of the bindings, and light staining to the margins of a few of the plates; overall, this set is in good condition. Note; the pagination of the plates suggests that there should be two extra plates in volume 3, as the Hotel Lambert section has two gaps in the numbering (6 and 15). However, there is no indication that any plates have been removed from the book. The total number of plates (295) correlates with other sets available online, and we suspect that this is a pagination error rather than a binding error. Text in French.
