Title: 4o. centenario da 1a edicao de "Os Lusiadas", 1572 - 1972.
Description: Lisboa [Lisbon]: Secretaria de estado da Informacao e turismo, 1972. A portfolio of 12 plates, reproduced from the 1837 edition. The plates measure 40cm by 32cm, and are in excellent condition. The contents are housed in a white paper folder (with the titling printed on the front cover). The folder has some creasing to the extremities. The folder is housed in a cardboard case, with a reproduction of the title page of the 1572 edition on the front of the case. There is a page of introduction, from which I quote: ".. enlarged reproductions of the prints illustrating the most famous edition of os Lusiadas. The work of a portuguese Maecenas, Margado de Mateus, this resulted from the collaboration of great artists of the period, the painters Fragonard, Desenne, Gerard, the engravers Lignon, Forssell, Masard, Dartman, Laurent, Bovinet, Pigeot, Forster, Richomme, Toschi... was printed with specially designed and cast type, under the supervision of Baron de Gerard.
