Description: Madrid? Lisbon?, 1695?. Two volumes. 36 and 27 pp. First and only editions of these two extremely rare libelous pamphlets relating to and (falsely) attributed to the 17th-century actress, producer, and director María de Navas ("La Milanesa", 1678-1721), who was especially famous for playing male roles and whom scandal followed throughout her life. ASSOCIATION COPIES, with the bookplate of of Spanish scholar Angel González Palencia (1889-1949) in each volume. Small 4to. Bound in 20th-century cloth-backed marbled boards. FINE AND BRIGHT. Gallardo I, 955 and 957; Ungherini supp. II, 594; Palau (doubltess copying Gallardo) 188741 and 188743. Gallardo (and Palau) obviously never actually saw the second item, as they give "14 leaves" rather than the correct "27 pages". Contemporary printed books relating to Spanish Golden Age actors are extremely rare--and those relating to actresses, even rarer. .
