Title: A Modern Dry Fly Code. {Inscribed and Signed by Vince Marinaro}
Description: First Edition. New York. G. P. Putnam's Sons. 1950. First Edition, First State. Octavo (8 x 5 ½). 269 pp. Text illustrations by Pearce Bates. Inscribed and signed by Vincent Marinaro in the year of publication to a close friend on the half-title page. This book is a leading candidate as the most influential mid-twentieth century work on fly fishing for difficult trout. Mr. Marinaro's dressed his fly patterns with the purpose of capturing precise surface images - matching the natural fly on the water's surface as it drifted into the fish's view. And his ground-breaking research paved the way for a bevy of writers who later aped his discoveries and techniques. This is the first state binding with silver titles on the spine, and it was published with a print run of 500-600 copies, according to the author. Stapled to the inside rear end paper is typed list of fly patterns for use on limestone and freestone streams. The book is bound in light green/grey cloth with silver titles on the spine. Decorated end papers. The book has light fading to the spine, otherwise a very good book and quite scarce signed. Signed by Author.
