The book is Van's poignant account of his friendship with the Haig-Browns, and his camaraderie with Roderick and their fishing the rivers and lakes on Vancouver Island over the course of several decades. The book has a fold-out booklet in a back pocket showing the Haig-Brown flies utilized in the book’s narrative, two maps of the Nimpkish River, and a 1956 color cover photo of the April 1956 issue of Sports Illustrated featuring Van hooking a brown trout. The book is bound in full brown leather with gilt titles on the spine and front cover. Pictorial dust jacket, and it comes with a custom slip case constructed of brown cloth, padded felt liner, and descriptive label affixed to the side panel. It was designed and made by Gwen Kushner of Campbell River. The text sheets are deckle-edged. Pictorial dust jacket. A handsome book. Fine in a fine dust jacket and slip case.
