The book is Van's poignant account of his friendship with the Haig-Browns, and his camaraderie with Roderick and their fishing the rivers and lakes on Vancouver Island over the course of several decades. The book has a fold-out booklet in a back pocket showing the Haig-Brown flies utilized in the book’s narrative, two maps of the Nimpkish River, and a 1956 color cover photo of the April 1956 issue of Sports Illustrated featuring Van hooking a brown trout. The book is bound in full brown leather with gilt titles on the spine and front cover. Pictorial dust jacket, and it comes with a custom slip case constructed of brown cloth, padded felt liner, and descriptive label affixed to the side panel.
