Author: MARY ORVIS MARBURY. Title: Favorite Flies and Their Histories. With Many Replies from Practical Anglers to Inquiries Concerning How, When, and Where to Use Them.
Description: Boston, Massachusetts. Charles T. Branford Company. 1955. Large Octavo (8 ˝ x 6 ˝). 522 pp. including index. Thirty-Two color plates show-casing the pinnacle of nineteenth century American fly tying and fancy flies. Black and white plates. The color plates in this edition are vastly superior to those in the later reprints - in this 1955 edition the color plates were printed using six colors and they sparkle with clarity and brilliant coloration. The book is bound in green cloth with gilt titles. Pictorial dust jacket. Also with the original glassine dust jacket over the printed pictorial jacket - the book was published with it and this example is one of only a few times I’ve seen it. Neat former owner’s name in ink on the inside front cover. A nice book. Near fine in a fine printed jacket and glassine jacket.
