Title: Measure of the Year. {Signed by Haig-Brown}.
Description: Toronto and London. Wm. Collins Sons & Co. Canada, Ltd. 1968 [1950]. Second Canadian Edition. Octavo (9 x 6). 260 pp. Signed by Roderick Haig-Brown on the half-title page. The book is Haig-Brown's account of family life at Campbell River, friendships on the Nimpkish River, farming, raising livestock, gardening, Canada and Canadians, and if you’re a bibliophile, a cool chapter On Making a Library. This book has John McCormac’s bookplate (actually two of them, designed and printed by Lance Hidy, Pete Hidy’s son). John was Labor Relations Director at Boise Cascade and an avid fly fisherman, and he was a member of the newly formed Boise Valley Fly Fishers. In 1971 Haig-Brown traveled to Boise to speak to the club members. After addressing the group, Haig-Brown was invited by the McCormacs to their home for cocktails. Elaine and Pete Hidy were also present. It was an enjoyable evening, filled with conversations of fly fishing and book publishing (courtesy of Ginny McCormac). The book is bound in crimson cloth with black titles. Pictorial dust jacket. A nice book. Fine in a fine jacket with just a touch of corner wear. Signed by Author.
