Author: RODERICK L. HAIG-BROWN. Title: The Western Angler. An Account of Pacific Salmon & Western Trout in British Columbia.
Description: First Edition. New York. William Morrow & Company. 1947. First Edition. Octavo (8 x 6). 356 pp. including index. Illustrated by Tommy Brayshaw. Color frontispiece showing a Cutthroat and Rainbow Trout and there’s another color plate in the text showing a Steelhead and Coho Salmon. Text drawings. Double page map of British Columbia’s fishing waters. This book is the first trade edition, following publication in 1939 by The Derrydale Press two volume limited edition. It’s essentially the same book, with some of the scientific sections excluded in this edition. Either edition is nice - so you can’t go wrong with Haig-Brown providing his encouragement and expert guidance throughout. The 1947 Western Angler first impression was published in October of that year and went out print in 1953, selling 2,602 copies during that time. The book is bound in beige cloth with black titles on the spine and decorations on the front cover. Pictorial dust jacket. A nice book. Near fine in a very good jacket with light edge wear.
