Title: The Complete Angler, or The Contemplative Man’s Recreation, of Izaak Walton and Charles Cotton. {Large Paper Copy}.
Description: London. D. Bogue, Fleet Street, H. Wix, New Bridge-Street, Publishers. 1844. Large Paper Copy (8 x 5+). lx, [1]-262; [3], 266-418 pp. including notes, index, in two parts. Part One, engraved frontispiece showing Izaak Walton with tissue guard. Part Two, engraved frontispiece showing Charles Cotton with tissue. In all there are twelve engraved plates by Thomas Creswick with tissue guards, and seventy-four embellishments in the text. John Major’s introductory essay captures the spirit and piscatorial ecstasy of both Walton’s Being a Discourse of Fish and Fishing, not Unworthy the Perusal of Most Anglers, and Cotton’s Instructions How to Angle for a Trout or Grayling in a Clear Stream. The book is bound in its original brown cloth with gilt titles and decorations on the spine and front cover. Yellow end papers. A very good, clean book, with just light edge wear and light fading to the binding. See Oliver 53 and Coigney 56 for complete analytical descriptions of this well-received edition.
