Title: Minor Tactics of the Chalk Stream. {Limited Edition}.
Description: Devon, England. The Flyfisher’s Classic Library. 1995. Limited Edition. One of 750 copies published. Octavo (8 ½ x 6 ½). xiv, 133 pp. Color frontispiece showing thirteen flies dressed by Mr. Skues with each fly identified. More than a century has passed since publication of this cornerstone book on fishing nymphs for picky trout on flat water. Revolutionary in 1910, and in some ways, still so today. A hundred years ago, trout fishing on the streams of Hampshire was dominated by dry fly fishermen who, without much quibbling, followed the credo of Frederic Halford, first proselytized in his book, "Floating Flies and How to Dress Them." The cult of the dry fly, fished up-stream only, ruled the day. Mr. Skues’s book cracked that monopoly and it opened up a series of new techniques which still continue and evolve today: nymphs fished downstream, upstream, and mid-stream. Interestingly, Skues opened his book with this Dedication: "To my Friend the Dry-Fly Purist, and to my Enemies, if I have Any." The book is bound in burgundy leatherette and red cloth with gilt titles and a decoration. Marbled end papers. Red cloth slip case. A handsome book. Fine in a fine slip case.
