Author: RODERICK L. HAIG-BROWN. Title: Tillbaka Till Floden. En Berattelse om Laxens Vandringar. {Return to the River}.
Description: Stockholm, Sweden. Albert Bonniers Forlag. 1943. First Swedish Edition. Octavo (8 1/2 x 6). 231 pp. Illustrated color frontispiece. Illustrated with sixteen black and white plates by Charles De Feo. The plates in this edition are somewhat better than those in the American and Canadian editions because the Swedish publisher utilized a better grade of paper. Foreword by Professor Bertil Hanstrom. Haig-Brown’s compelling story about the life history of Spring, (a Chinook or Tyee salmon - your choice), from its birth and migration to the sea, and its return years later to its river of birth as an adult. The Swedish edition is a rare book. Bonniers published just a few hundred hard bound copies in 1943. Sales were slow, and in 1950 the publisher destroyed the remaining unsold copies. WorldCat finds one example in an institutional library, in Sweden. The book is bound in turquoise cloth with silver titles on the spine and a silver salmon on the front board. Pictorial dust jacket. A stunningly beautiful book. Fine in a fine dust jacket.
