Title: Panther (First Edition).
Description: London. Jonathan Cape. 1934. First Edition. Octavo (8 x 5). 257 pp. Roderick Haig-Brown's compelling story of a Vancouver Island cougar, or mountain lion, Ki-yu . One of the finest animal biographies published. The 1934 British Panther is a rare book - and in this case this same book has come back to me after more than a decade since I sold it (by the way, handling the same book once every 10 years is a good way to define a rare book). The U. K. Panther first edition was published two weeks before the American edition titled Ki-yu was published in the states. There are two states of the binding in the 1934 Panther - the first in green cloth with yellow titles and the second, this one, bound in red cloth with black titles on the spine - it was issued in 1937 and was in print for a short period of time. White and yellow printed dust jacket. The book is very good (small stain on spine) in a near very good dust jacket with some soiling and a stain.
