The bulk of the book with interesting and revealing exchanges of correspondence between Al Purdy and Roderick Haig-Brown, dating from 1974 through 1976, with Purdy’s "The Death of a Friend" an especially memorable tribute to the life and spirit of Roderick Haig-Brown. The book’s title "Cougar Hunter" was taken from Purdy’s same titled essay in the final chapter, and it’s a beautiful, striking, thoughtful biography of Roderick Haig-Brown. Al Purdy and Alex Widen formed a partnership in 1992 to publish Cougar Hunter under the banner of The Phoenix Press; Al the writer and poet, Alex the printer. The book is bound in brown morocco leather spine and brown cloth boards, with gilt titles on the spine and front cover. A fine, beautiful book. Signed by Author.
