Title: A Treatyse of Fysshynge wyth an Angle [A Treatise of Fishing with an Angle]. By Dame Juliana Berners: Being a Facsimile Reproduction of the First Book on the Subject of Fishing Printed in England by Wynkyn de Worde at Westminster in 1496.
Description: London. Elliot Stock. 1880. 4to. (9 x 8). xiv, 24 pp. Woodcuts. Preface by Rev. M. G. Watkins. The fundamental work on fishing with bait and flies and the first work in English on the subject. Whether the Dame actually existed is still debated and hotly contested by angling historians. As for me, I prefer to think the Dame lived and indeed penned this most famous work. There is a book (Dame Juliana: The Angling Treatyse and its Mysteries by Federick Buller and Hugh Falkus) which thoroughly and expertly examines the Dame and her work. The book is bound in card wrappers with the original printed red and black glassine jacket. Very good in a near very good dust jacket with light edge wear to the spine and a few chips to the corners.
