Author: T.W. LAMBERT Title: Fishing in British Columbia: With a Chapter on Tuna Fishing at Santa Catalina. {Deluxe Edition}.
Description: White Rock, British Columbia. Pices Press. 1997. Octavo (9 x 6). 148 pp. Deluxe Edition. This is Letter J of 26 lettered copies published. Signed by W. Richard "Ric" Olmsted, and publisher, Peter Addison, on the half-title. Foreword by Arthur Lingren, signed by him. With a ten page Afterword by Ric Olmsted (Ric was a B. C. Fisheries Biologist who passed away in 2002). This limited edition was printed on fine laid paper, and it’s a beautiful reprint of the 1907 first edition published by Horace Cox, London. The book is important for many reasons - it was written by a man who had an abiding interest in fishing as much of the lower province's waters as he was able, and to accurately describe it - it was the first written description of playing and later catching steelhead on the Thompson River and its tributaries. Dr. Lambert's warning of the impending destruction of fish habitat by commercial interests, and his belief that the government should play a role in protecting it. The Afterword by Ric Olmsted was written based on first-hand experience and knowledge, projects this book into the present with his description of the constraints and government imposed restrictions currently hindering anadromous fish stocks. The book is bound in half blue leather and blue cloth with gilt titles on the front cover and spine. Housed in a matching blue cloth slip case. A beautiful book. In fine condition. Signed by Author(s).
