ISBN 0969342004 B&w photos and map. "John Harding was born in London, Ontario in 1919. His family moved to Wind sor in 1920 where he was raised. He was one of the hundreds of young men coming of age in the latter days of the depression, bitter at the prospects of widespread unemployment..He served as a navigator with RAF Bomber Command from the end of 1 9 4 2 to mid-1944, rising from the rank of sergeant to flight-lieutenant, doing 2 tours on Lancasters at 103 Sqdn. and 550 Sqdn. after which he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Seconded home in Aug./1944, he was attached to 168 Sqdn. R CA F in Ottawa, flying Canadian Forces mail across the Atlantic and up to the front lines. Leaving the airforce in Nov./1946, he joined Air Canada as a line navigator on trans-Atlantic and Caribbean duties, where he served for 30 years." Interior - Fa the r's Day notation, place, date, and signature in ink on verso of free rear endpaper; book lightly cracked at end of index; gift inscription in ink on inside of front cover and a small envelope (attached by glue at tip) containing a card (no n-a uth oria l) and a small note from the author describing a squadron reunion and sales of the book; otherwise clean and tight with no other ownership marks. Exterior - very light edge wear, light rubbing, a few soft wrinkles on covers, wear at bo ttom of spine , creasing on top 1" of spine. Very Good.
