"Aircraft procurement by the Navy began (in 1911), and the new air arm grew quickly in size and importance. Although serving somewhat different purposes, and often o perating under very different conditions, U.S. Naval Aviation has complemented the Army Air Corps and later the U.S.A.F. for 57 years.
