(16, 6x9, 7 cm.).12, [100], 311-[2], xii, 375-[2], xii, 368-[2], iv, 375-390-[6], 344 pp. Mottled calf, gilt spines with morocco title pieces, marbled endleaves, marbled edges.(hinge of vol.1 a bit weak; corners and turnins slightly damaged) ¶ The anonymous dedication of this edition to Stadtholder William V is by Elie Luzac, who is also the anonymous author of the 'remarques philosophiques et politiques'. (see Cioranescu 46066 & Rietje van Vliet, Elie Luzac, p.337-339). Van Vliet argues that it was this Luzac edition of l'Esprit des Lois that influenced Catherine the Great greatly when she composed the Nakaz in 1767.
