Red morocco, boards with triple gilt fillets; spine richly gilt; edges gilt. (small tears in spine and along joints; lower corner back board repaired; pastedowns/flyleaves damaged and loose from boards; part of a French parliament 'Extrait de Registre', , printed on velum and dated 1675, bound in. Name/initials ('James OBryan' and 'JOB Esq.') written on flyleaves and first pages; map worn along the folds) ¶ Copy of the original edition of this year, with the dedications on page 60 of preface and page 92 of main work printed in red. (Two reprints were published with the same date). According to Willems this editions by Daniel Heinsius was riddled with faults, but nevertheless a masterpiece of typography. "Si incorrecte qu'elle soit, cette édition n'en est pas moins recherchée, et les exemplaires grands de marges et bien conservés se maintiennent à des prix fort élevés." (Willems 450)
