As a gentleman-dealer he bought and sold on a massive scale. This auction after his death, was held in two sessions: On 19 November 1872 and following days, and on 23 October 1873 and the following days. The catalogue lists 4362 items. The auctioneer Frans-Jan Olivier was the main antiquarian bookseller of Belgium at that time.
