Description: Amsterdam Joh. Janssonius, 1659. 12mo. 445, [14] pp. Met frontispice. Perkamenten spitselband met omgezette randen (lichte sporen van plakkers op rug en voorplat; onder-en bovenmarge zeer licht watervlekkig (ca. eerste kwart wat erger) overigens een net ex.) ¶ Deze latijnse vertaling door Agricola was een bestseller in de 16e en 17e eeuw. Gerda Huisman telt meer dan 100 edities. Dit is Huisman 245. ¶ Volgens Kuiper bleef dit werk voor de onderwijspraktijk 'waarschijnlijk zonder vrucht': de Ars Rhetorica kwam slechts heel beperkt aan bod op school, en ook Aphtonius (en Theon) kwam hij in bijna geen enkel schoolprogramma tegen. De Statenuitgave bevat naast de latijnse vertaling (door Heinsius) ook de griekse tekst. (Kuiper p. 134-137). / Laced vellum with turned edges. (traces of label on spine and front board; very slightly water stained (ca. first quarter more heavily so); otherwise a good copy). This latin translation was a best seller: over 100 editions known. Possibly not used in the latin schools.
