Niet bijgesneden; los in contemporaine kartonnen interimband. (wat gebruind) ¶ Ms.annotation on titlepage: 'Ex libris Jo.Francisci Viligrandi (?) M.A.' ¶ Introductory poem in greek, with latin translation, by Petrus Francius. / With 8 (2 folding) plates, and many engravings in the text. Untrimmed copy, loose in a contemporary paperboard temporary binding. (age-toned, some pages browned) ¶ The Apotheosis is the marble relief signed by Archelaus of Priene (ca.300 BC), depicting Homers elevation to divine status. It was discovered in the countryside near Rome in 1658, and is now in the British Museum. Cuper based his study partly on remarks by Raffaele Fabretti, communicated by Antonio Magliabecchi. Fabretti had inspected the marble personally at the Palazzo Colonna, where it was moved after discovery.
