Description: Arnhem, Joh. Fred. Hagen, (printed by Deventer, Willem Wier), 1668 (Explicatio & Notae: Willem Wier, 1667). 4to. [iv], [viii], 181, [ii], 239 pp. With frontispice and some engraved mathematical figures. Explicatio and Notae wit separate titlepages. Later laced vellum binding. (binding slightly stained; some quires severely browned; paper ocasionally "tired"). ¶ Laudatory poems by Johannes Coccius, Thomas Munckerus and Henricus Brumanus; and occasional poems by Samuel Tenullus: on the death of Franciscus Scotenus; on the death of Rabodus Hermannus de Schele; an Oratio dedicated to Philippus Conradus of Bentheim; a poem lauding Arnoldus Mauritius Wilhelmus and Sophia Agneta Eleonora of Bentheim; nuptial poetry on the marriage of Joannes Adolphus of Bentheim & Joanna Dorothea of Schaumburg; a funerary poem on the deaths of Kunnera Krull (wife of Godefridus Spinaeus) and Johannes Conradus Rhonius; and a poem on the Anglo-Dutch naval battle ('The Four Days Fight') of 1 June 1666, dedicated to Fredericus van Essen. ¶ Greek text with latin translation, commentary in latin. Editio princeps latina. Schweiger I.176 ("Nach 4 Manuscripten"); "Das Fragment De fato, ... ist das 7te u. 8te Capitel der Sectio VIII des Werks: de Aegyptiorum mysteriis."(Hoffmann II.388); Ebert 10715.¶ Samuel ten Nuyl (1635-1688), Professor in Steinfurt and Nijmegen, was an excellent linguist and mathematician (according to: Van der Aa, Biographisch Woordenboek der Nederlanden XVIII, p. 63-64).. Joh. Fred. Gronovius was his son-in-law. / With engr. frontispiece (ēdepicting Nicomachus, Euclides, Pythagoras, Ptolemaeus, and Aristoxenus; by J. van Steegeren) and some mathematical figures in the text. Later laced parchment. (binding spotted; some quires (heavily) browned/age-toned; paper of a few pages a bit tired)
