Description: Amsterdam, I.Tirion, 1751-1753 & Middelburg P.Gillissen & I.de Winter, 1767. 4 parts in 2 volumes. Large-Folio. (46x27, 8 cm.) [x], 52-[xxii], 74 & [vi], 80-[iv], viii, 92, [32] pp. (missing: last 4 unnumbered pp.of vol.1, part 1 (laudatory poems)). - With in vol.1, part 1: 11 (1 double, folding) plates & 1 numismatic plate in the text; in vol.1, part 2: title-plate, portrait of William IV, 8 (2 double, 1 double folding) plates & 1 numismatic plate in the text; in vol.2, part 1:10 (1 double folding, 1 folding) plates. The plates depict triumphal arches, fireworks, interiors and views. In two identical polished marbled calf bindings, with gilt filets and corner fleurons, gold tooled borders, ornamental gilt spines, large, vertical, green morocco titlepieces. (some greyish foxing in the first volume; but a fresh copy) SPLENDID SET IN SUMPTUOUS BINDINGS of presentation copies from the library of V. Tets van Goudriaan with his bookplates, printed on large and thick paper. Storm van Leeuwen (Dutch Decorated Bookbinding in the 18th c.) mentions copies of this work being bound by the Middelburg Flower Roll Bindery (cf. vol. III: 1392 and 1393), also on large paper, but the ornaments used for our bindings (which we were unable to trace in Storm van Leeuwen) are not the same. - Landwehr, Splendid Ceremonies, 227 (Andriessen); 228 (Huët); 244 (Van Iperen); 247 (Te Water).
