Description: Douai, Louis de Winde, 1564. 8vo. (15, 8x10, 3 cm.) 223, [1] pp. With printers device. Contemporary limp vellum. (vellum damaged and soiled; ties gone; some (partly erased) provenance information on title, incl.library stamp; upper corner torn from 3 leaves; lower outer corner sl. water stained) Edition by the scholar Boėtius Epo (Bote Ypes; 1529-1599), born in the Frisian village of Roordahuizum. After his doctorate in Cologne, and two years with the Brethren of Common Life in Zwolle, he moved to France, and later to Louvain. On the recommendation of Viglius of Aytta and Joachim Hopperus Epo was appointed to the Chair of Law in the newly founded University at Douai. The Prognostikon of Julianus is followed by a few fragments of Isidorus Hispalensis on monastic life and the eucharist, with a dedicatory preface to Arnoldus Gantois, abbott of Marchiennes, abbey where the manuscript used came from. ¶ Possibly the first Douai edition by Louis de Winde.
