Loose leaves in cloth portfolio.(cloth spotted; outer leaves Institutions a bit browed; plate 1 duplicated; tear in 1 text leaf along the fold. line; a few spots) ¶ Contents: List of institutions on behalf of the employés (focussing on the increase of workers' incomes; the furtherance of material interests; intellectual development; recreation and sociability; the furtherence of good relations between capital directors with labour); followed by an account (and some raving reviews) of the conference held at the grounds of the Yeast and Spirit Manufactory and the visit to its commonwealth community at the Agnetapark. 250 representatives of the National Association of Master Bakers and Confectioners of Great Britain were invited to the 1-day conference. Apparently the visitors marvelled at the social, philantropic character of the van Markens and the cooperative community they had built. Technical lectures were given by Dr. M.W. Beijerinck, who gave a presentation on the cultivation of micro-organisms, and who spoke at some length on the probability of yeast acting as a carrier of cholera germs - a rumour that had spread throughout England during the previous cholera outbreak. The 18 plates depict Agneta Park, but also the factory and its amenities: Dr. Beijerinck in his laboratory, the yeast packery, the band stand in the Agneta park, the lake, the fire brigade, building "The Community" (housing a reading room, schoolrooms, kitchens, and a gymnasium), the cooperative store, the printing press, the labourer's housing.. ¶ Zie Van der Mast, Jacques van Marken.
