Description: (Paris), Jean Petit & Jodocus Badius, October 1521 & January 1522. Folio. (32, 5x20, 2cm). 2 vols.in 1. [vi], 176-[xii], 263 (of 265) leaves. 2 Title-pages in elaborate woodcut borders, the first printed in black and red. With nice floral initials in different sizes. Contemporary panelled parchment over boards, ties gone. (bookplate removed from upper paste-down; corners bumped; some light waterstaining in outer margins; tear in one leaf in part 2 with some loss; leaves 218 and 223 in part 2 missing; hinges splitting but holding) ¶ Schweiger II/172 & II/128. The central woodcut in the title-page depicts the printing office of Badius (Prelum Ascensianii) and is dated 1520. Jodocus (Josse) Badius (1462-1535) was born in the village of Assche near Brussels. Robert Estienne was his son-in-law. Badius dedicated the edtion of these philosophical works to the Parisian doctor Joannes Bartholdus, the Orations he dedicated to Dreux Budé, the son of Guillaume.
