Edited by Jacobus Bedrotus, with the assistance of Christianus Herlinus. "According to Casaubon, the editors were Bedrotus and Herlinus, two young Germans, possessing more enthusiasm than correctness; but much to be praised for this attempt - in which they would probably have succeeded better had their judgment and maturity of reading been equal to their ardour." "To the quotations in Athenaeus we are indebted for our knowledge of passages from about 700 ancient writers who would otherwise be unknown to us." (Sandys I/330).
