Title: Anaptyxis ad Fastos P. Ovidii Nasonis.
Description: Antwerp, Ex officina plantiniana, B.Moretus, 1639. Folio. (31, 4x20, 8cm). [xxxii], 304, [26] pp. With engraved title-page by I.Neefs after Erasmus Quellinus II, woodcuts in the text, and large Plantin device on last page. Vellum (binding soiled and bottom stained; fly-leaf wrinkled; some pages age-toned; vague waterstain in upper margin throughout, stronger waterstain in the margins of last 15 pp. ¶ Provenance: armorial bookplate of baron Rolle (Nec rege nec populo sed utroque). ¶ The study is preceded by congratulatory letters by Erycius Puteanus to Caesar Alexander Scalia, and by Scalia to Puteanus, dated september and october 1636. Graesse V, 78 It is suggested that Neapolis and Scalia are aliases of Puteanus himself, but this is contradicted by J.C.Götze in Merckwürdigkeiten der Kgl.Bibliothek zu Dresden (1746), Bd.3, S.8. On the other hand Fabricius states in Bibl.Lat.lib.1, cap.15, num.6 that Puteanus edited the Anaptyxis after Neapolis died at the age of 22, but elsewhere Neapolis' demise is dated 1644.
