Fox uses for the first time the technique of heliography or photo-engraving, which was invented in 1878. (Dann, Abbildung der Hautkrankheit, see also: B.Cribier, Medical history of the representation of rosacea in the 19th century, p.12). Fox' classification of skin diseases largely follows that of Willan and Plenck. He was the first to describe impetigo contagiosa in 1864, and - alongside John Fordyce - the Fox-Fordyce-disease. (Ehring, Hautkrankheiten p.223-224)). G&M, 3996 (for the N.Y.edition): "a valuable atlas of skin diseases".
