(binding strengthened along the joints with linen; spine rebacked; pagination somewhat erratic; some pages lightly waterstained in margine; tiny worming (almost no text loss, 1 letter at most), from p.II.138 onward; lacking the last 8 leaves of part III) ¶ "Ex libris Jac. Navander inattiaroveriani" [?] written in old hand on title-page; as well as another, later name (illegible); armorial bookplate of Beilby Thompson (of Escrick) on paste-down. ¶ Best edition of Turnebus' most important work, in which "a large number of passages in ancient authors are judiciously explained or boldly emended." (Sandys II.185-86) ¶ "Beste Ausg."(Ebert 23161). ¶ Adams T1145 (our copy matches those in the university libraries of Cambridge and Ghent).
