Description: Frankfurt, Petrus Brubacchius, 1542. 4o (20, 2x16cm & 18, 6x15, 2 cm) (some quires in-8). In 2 vol. 255, (1 blank) lvs.& leaf 257-377, (& 1 blank). Partly printed in black and red, each of the Odes with elabarorate title-page. Not uniform in binding nor in size. Later vellum with morocco title-shield & contemporary roan with gilt floral centre-piece and single fillet on both sides (vol.1: corners sl.worn; some leaves browned and some marginal waterstains; one or two annotations; vol.2: binding worn, rubbed, spine damaged and repaired, partly lightly waterstained). ¶ Provenance: vol.1: unknown bookplate w.initials BO, and annotation "Argyll 1929", vol.2: armorial bookplate of Archibald Grant of Monymoske. ¶ The editio princeps (Aldus 1513) published the Odes only, the Kallierges' Rome edition of 1515 is the first with the (Aristarchus, Didymus) scholia. This Brubach edition is the second with these "scholia romana". With some marginal variants of the Aldine edition, and a few corrections by an unknown scholar. (Ebert 1685; Schweiger 234).
