Although he corresponded with all important scientists of his time, his publications are only few. He even was presented books by the pope, and contemporaries therefore judged him arrogant. He was rector of the Atheneum illustre at Deventer. The first work deals with the hellenistic god Harpocrates "son of Isis", created after the Egyptian god Horus, much worshipped together with Osiris & Isis in a mystery cult.
