Later polished tree-calf with -earlier- richly gilt spine and morocco title-piece. (The blank leaves L8 and a1 missing. Some old expert repair of small marginal worming in a few leaves, corner missing from lower margin of one leaf, hinges weak and (very) slightly damaged. A few old marginal annotations.) A clean, fresh copy with ample margins in a beautiful binding. ¶ Provenance: Armorial bookplate of the earl of Cromer on upper paste-down. ¶ The second edition of the complete works, and more complete than the first (Giunta) edition of 1516. "Superior to the preceding edition. Many of its erroneous readings are corrected, and the text is evidently taken from a purer MS." (Dibdin II/565). ¶ "François d'Asola a, dans celle-ci (édition de 1525), rempli la plupart de ces lacunes (de l'éd.1516), ajouté plusieurs pièces non encore imprimées, et beaucoup epuré le texte. Aussi a-t-il grand soin de le faire savoir; et sa préface dans laquelle Phil.Junta, sans être nommé, est clairement désigné, se ressent de la jalouse rivalité qui a toujours existé entre ces deux Imprimeries célèbres."
