Later leather, renewed spine with raised bands and morocco title-piece, older calfskin back board preserved. (binding sl.worn; minute wormhole in joint lower margin; lacking the last leaf: a blank) ¶ Provenance: owner's entry of the Rev.Dr. Edward Ballard, Trinity College, Oxford (1725). ¶ Editio princeps. ¶ Incorporates translations by Estienne and Willem Canter; with comments of Joseph Scaliger. Contains the Epitaphia von Ausonius as well. ¶ "Our extant version of the Certamen survives in a single fourteenth century manuscript in Florence,  known as the Laurentianus,  LVI,  1,  from which Stephanus made the copy which is now in Leyden."
