Title: Odarum sive Carminum libri quatuor. Epodon liber unus. Nicolai Perotti libellus non infrugifer De metris Odarum Horatianarum. + Epistolarum libri duo. Sermonum sive Satyrarum libri duo, ad mecoenatem. Ars poëtica, ad Pisones. + JUVENALIS. Satyrae decem et sex. Cum annotatiunculis quam antea auctioribus in margine adiectis, quae brevis commentarii vice esse possint.
Description: Paris, Simon Colines, 1539-39-35. 8vo. (16, 9x10, 7cm). 96-75-64 leaves. All with separate title-pages and printer's devices (Temps No.3 resp.2). Mottled calf, gilt boards and spine, with morocco title-piece; marbled edges (leather chafed along edges and hinges, title-piece damaged; paper browned a bit; title-page strengthened and a few (marginal) spots strengthened; with old (very faded, almost invisible) annotations and red ruling throughout; recent bookplate on upper paste-down) ¶ Printed entirely in italics. With some woodcut initials. ¶ According to Graesse, Juvenal's Satires should probably be followed by those of Persius. Renouard however makes no mention of this. (Graesse III.519; Renouard II/312-3 & 253: "La vie de Juvénal occupe le verso du titre, les commentaires placés en marge qui accompagnenet le texte sont ceux de Coelius Curio." ¶ Horace's Opera (2 parts) by Colines are very correct, rare and sought after. Text of Aldus. This edition of the Odes is a reprint of the 1528 edition; the Letters are a copy of the 1533 edition. (Ebert 10154; Graesse III.350; Renouard, 312-313). ¶ The Satires (ed. by Coelius Curio) are based on the Aldine text, but corrected, and with a few peculiarities. (Ebert 11224).) ¶ Schweiger II.393; II.503. Not in Adams (only earlier editions: H.878 (ed.1533); J.759 (ed.1528)).
