(slightly bumped, interior fresh; two owners entries on title page, i.a. "Fr.Jo. Hidard Carmelita ..... 30.Martii 1591" ¶ Adolf van Meetkercke (Bruges 1528-London 1591), was a Netherlands statesman. Champion of the protestant cause he was forced to flee to the northern provinces in 1584, and in 1591 to London. Meetkerck was a classicist as well. After this textbook, he published introductory poems to Ortelius' Theatrum orbis terrarum, and latin translations of Bion and Moschus, and of Theocritus. The privilege by king Philip II of Spain, is signed by De Langhe and dated March 1564. First edition (the second was published by Plantin in 1576). ¶ Adams M1051.
