Description: Edinburgh, for T. Cadell, 1791. 4to. (27x20, 3cm). xv, [iv], 154, [10 = index] pp. With 1 large folding map (59x43cm), 2 smaller folding maps and 1 plate. Contemporary calf, new spine - old-style - w.morocco title-piece. (later flyleaves; leather, corners a bit rubbed; marginal tear in first folding map; stain on p. 83)) ¶ Provenance: armorial bookplates of George Frederick Nott and John Benett Jr. of Pythouse. ¶ Jean Baptiste Le Chevalier (1752-1836) was secretary to the count of Choiseul, ambassador of France in Constantinople, and collaborated in the explorations on the Troiad. The Revolution forced him in exile in Great Britain. The original French version of this paper was later published in Paris, in 1800. According to Le Chevalier Troy was situated on the hills of Bunarbashi, and not the mound of Hissarlik.
