(spine a bit spotted; libr.stamp on fly leaf and title) ¶ Rare reissue of the 1787 edition published in Utrecht by B. Wild. The Icones start with poetical elogies of Charles-Louis Auguste de Fouquet, duc de Belle-Isle (Bellilius), the Dutch envoi in France Abraham Van Hoei, the Stadtholder of Frisia and Groningen William Louis van Nassau, of the other stadtholders, further a mirror of his time ('Icon nostri saeculi' ), and end with an ode of the senate and people of Amsterdam and an ode of Petrus van Bleiswijk. ¶ Gerad Nicolaas Heerkens (1726-1801), was a general practicioner in Groningen. His medical practice gave him ample opportunity to travel extensively. (J.A.Worp in NNBW.I/1050-51). See also Lindeboom, DMB.803-4: "He settled in pratice at Groningen and devoted all his spare time to Latin poetry, of which he published several collections. Some of them have medical implications."
