Publisher's original smooth dark blue cloth, front cover and spine lettered in gilt, original dark gray coated end-papers. Minimal rubbing to head of spine and corners, otherwise near fine. The first issue is bound in smooth cloth and has no mention of the number of printings of The Castle Inn in the advertisements at the end of the book. Along with The Three Musketeers, Twenty Years After, La Dame de Monsoreau, The Forty-Five, Le Chevalier D'Hermental, Scaramouch, King of Foxes, Captain From Castile, and another of Weyman's own, A Gentleman of France, The Castle Inn is one of the great Swashbuckling historical adventure stories that takes place in eighteenth century England. Stanley John Weyman (1855-1928) was an English novelist sometimes referred to as the "Prince of Romance". He traveled widely with another best selling novelist, Henry Seton Merriman.
