"There are beautiful pictures in the Tennant collection, and Lady Tennant is a charming writer about and for children. The combination makes 'The Children and the Pictures' one of the happiest book for children that we have seen -- a verdict borne out with acclamation by a keen critic of twelve to whom we have already submitted it. Not only are there stories, and good talks, and pretty fancies, and some delightful poems ranging from Skelton to the far later author of a charming poem about a miller, the pictures are reproduced in colour, so that the children who are not fortunate enough to live with the originals may yet learn early to know and to love them. (The times Press Review, 1907). Riall, p. 76; Gettings, p. 177; Hamilton, p. 188; Hudson, p. 175; Latimore & Haskell, p. 30. .
