Description: Hokuri Jūniji OeOe十Oe時 [The Twelve hours of the Northern Village] 27.2 x 18cm volume bound Japanese style, fukuro-toji with original, printed title slip. No colophon. Totoya Hokkei 魚屋Oe渓 (1780-1850), also known as Kyōsai (拱斎), Aoigazono (葵oe) and Aoigaoka (葵岡), was a student of the famous Katsushika Hokusai 葛飾 Oe斎 (1760-1849) and was known for his ukiyo-e prints. A very important book, very early for Hokkei. A landmark in the publication of appreciations of the new Yoshiwara district in Edo (the "Northern Village" of the title) - here presented in Ishikawa Masamochi's elegant prose and 12 Hokkei illustrations, delineating the 12 hours of the day in the district. Complete. Wrappers are worn with chipping and wormholes and a few spots of toning. Holes in title slip not affecting printing. Wormholes throughout and pages are split. Overall printing fair to good. NEEDS RESEWING. .
