Description: 1875. CRUIKSHANK, George. CRUIKSHANKIANA: BEING A COLLECTION OF THE MOST CELEBRATED WORKS OF GEORGE CRUIKSHANK. London: Frederick Bentley, [1875]. 2 ff. + 83 plates. 42 x 27 cm. Most by George Cruikshank except for 7 by Robert Cruikshank and 6 by Richard Dighton. Folio, half red morocco over red cloth boards, raised bands, gilt spine and corner decorations, t.e.g. First published in 1835 by McClean, these humorous illustrations provide sharp commentary on the travails of high society, highlighting monstrous fashions and military dandyism, as well as "London Nuisances," such as sidewalk perils and others. Fair to good, with dampstaining to both boards and front board bowed. Some wear and small chips at heel and crown, with corners slightly worn. Closed 2" tear to ffep. Some plates have a tideline that varies from the very shallow, just along one edge or corner, to almost touching the image; some of these with occasional, light foxing in the margins. The tideline just enters the image of the last six plates. Nonetheless, most of the images are clean and suitable for framing. (English Catalogue of Books, III, p. 112; Cohn, Bibliographical Catalogue. 207, for the 1835 first edition). .
