The date of the first volume, "Elementa Medicinae Physica-mathematica" is 1718. Dr. Archibald Pitcairn (1652-1713) was an eminent Scottish physician trained at Edinburgh, Paris and Rheims, and honored with a professorship at the University of Leiden. He lived out his life and practice in Edinburgh, however, because his wife declined to leave Scotland. He was an early supporter of Harvey's theory of the circulation of the blood. Some spotting and foxing; old calf, worn, with front fly and boards detached. .
